Mumbai, July 19 -- The Mahayuti government on Friday announced that Islampur in Sangli district would be renamed as Ishwarpur. The decision was taken following demands raised by Hindutva activist Sambhaji Bhide. Parliamentary affairs minister Chandrakant Patil announced the decision in the legislative council on Friday, the concluding day of the monsoon session. "There has been a demand (for renaming) from citizens of this area for many days. The state cabinet has approved the renaming of Islampur as Ishwarpur and a proposal will be sent to the central government soon," he said. NCP (SP) leader and former state president Jayant Patil, who represents Islampur in the state legislative assembly, has not reacted to the decision yet....
