Inaugural Indian Pickleball League begins in Capital today
New Delhi, Dec. 1 -- India's much-anticipated pickleball spectacle is set to light up the KD Jadhav Indoor Hall at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium from December 1 to 7 as the Indian Pickleball League (IPBL) kickstarts its inaugural edition.
The IPBL, launched by The Times Group and sanctioned by the Indian Pickleball Association (IPA) - officially recognised by the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports - remains India's first and only national franchise-based pickleball league.
This year's competition will follow a round-robin format, with the top four franchises progressing to the knockout stages. In each tie, a win earns a team three points while a draw fetches one. Regular matches will be played to 15 rally points, with the Grand Rally extending to 21.
Six teams will compete for the trophy: Bengaluru Blasters, Chennai Super Warriors, Capital Warriors Gurgaon, Hyderabad Royals, Lucknow Leopards and Mumbai Smashers. Each squad features six players: an international male and female superstar, an Indian male and female superstar and two rising stars (one male, one female).
