Home-bound student scores 86% despite serious illness
India, May 14 -- Mahi Deshwandikar of Kalyan lives on oxygen support and is home-bound. So when the Class 10 results were declared, she was overjoyed as she secured an impressive 86%. A student of Kar R Ma Oak High School, a Marathi-medium school in Kalyan West, Mahi was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis at the age of eight in 2017. Sharmila, her mother, said Mahi is immuno-compromised and cannot leave home due to the risk of falling sick.
As a result, Mahi has been home-schooled. Her teachers taught her through video calls, said Sharmila. "Even during the exams, she had to take an oxygen cylinder along with her, and special arrangements were made for her," she added. "I used to meet Mahi's teachers, who helped me understand her curriculum. That's how I helped her with her school work," added Sharmila, beaming with pride. She said her daughter's higher studies would be decided after consulting their doctor....
