HC gives frro 8 weeks to end Yemeni man's 12-yr visa limbo
MUMBAI, April 2 -- The Bombay High Court directed the Foreigner Regional Registration Office (FRRO) to decide the visa extension application of a Yemeni national within eight weeks, observing that the clearance has been long pending.
A division bench of justices Sarang V. Kotwal and Sandesh D. Patil noted that if the man is not permitted to reside in India, he would be separated from his family and might not see his children in the future.
The case concerns Fahd Redhwan Abdullah Saeed, who married an Indian citizen, Harjinder Kaur, under the Special Marriage Act in May 2011. The couple has two children and has been living in Pune with their family. Saeed was granted a visa under the "spouse of Indian national" category in November 2013, valid for one year. Authorities said he continued to stay in India without a valid visa.
The FRRO told the court that Saeed had violated visa conditions but confirmed that his visa extension application filed in August 2024 is pending. Observing that there was no material to show that he posed any threat to national security, the court, on March 26, directed the authorities to decide his visa extension application within eight weeks....
