Fresh violence over Waqf law hits Bengal
India, April 15 -- Several people were injured and public properties vandalised as fresh episodes of violence during demonstrations against the recently enforced Waqf (Amendment) Act rocked Bhangar area in West Bengal's South 24 Parganas district on Monday, police said, adding that situation remained largely under control in Murshidabad, where large-scale violence last week claimed at three lives. At Bhangar, in the eastern fringes of state capital Kolkata, supporters of the Indian Secular Front (ISF) clashed with the police during protests over the Waqf law. Some people were injured as the police resorted to baton-charge to disperse the crowd.
