Mumbai, Oct. 18 -- The Powai police early on Friday registered an FIR against an alumnus of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay for allegedly recording a video outside a hostel washroom when it was occupied. Deputy commissioner of police Datta Nalawade confirmed that the FIR was registered after institute authorities approached the police late on Thursday night. "We have booked the accused based on the complaint," Nalawade said, adding that the FIR has been registered under section 66 (e) of the Information Technology Act and relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The police are at present recording statements of the students and have sent the phone of the accused for forensic analysis of the photos and videos retrieved. The incident occurred in hostel number 14 of the institute on October 12. The students had earlier alleged that the police had not taken any action against the intruder as the institute had not filed a complaint.
