FDA seizes 11k litres of adulterated milk
Mumbai, April 9 -- Following a debate in the state legislature over milk adulteration, the state Food and Drug Administration (FDA) conducted a special overnight drive across Mumbai and Navi Mumbai on April 7, seizing over 11,080 litres of milk.
According to officials, the operation aimed to ensure a safe milk supply by inspecting vehicles transporting milk and other food products into the city. FDA teams were deployed at six key entry points - Mulund (Anand Nagar), Mulund (LBS Marg), Airoli, Mankhurd, Dahisar and Sewri. During the operation, 195 samples were collected for testing. Of these, 188 samples were compliant, six were classified as substandard and one was declared unsafe, while seven samples are being held for further action.
The drive also led to the seizure of 11,080.5 litres of milk stock. Substandard quantities were sealed and returned to producers, while 90 litres identified as unsafe were destroyed on the spot, officials said....
