Mumbai, June 28 -- Tightening the clutches around allegedly illegal Bangladeshis who have obtained forged Indian identity documents, the state government has said that those found employing such illegal Bangladeshis will be subjected to criminal action and district administrations must conduct stringent verification to detect them. A government resolution to this effect was issued by the state home department on Friday. The GR said police investigations had revealed that many illegal Bangladeshis were employed in the state without verification as they worked for low wages and their presence posed threats to national security. "Administrative departments should issue directives to their regional offices to ensure that they are not employed as construction labourers, drivers and helpers.If any establishment is found employing such individuals, the employer will be held accountable," the GR said. Legal amendments may be made by various departments to facilitate punitive action against errant employers, the GR mentioned. It stated that authorities issuing government certificates must undertake thorough verification of related documents through a reliable system such as Digilocker and initiate criminal action against illegal Bangladeshis availing benefits of government schemes. "Applications based on the forged documents should be rejected and records of such rejected applications must be maintained and published on the website, making them accessible to other departments," the GR said. All government schemes requiring personal declaration must include a clause saying if it was found that the beneficiary was not an Indian citizen and was availing the benefits fraudulently, they would be subjected to criminal proceedings, the GR said. Government officials involved in issuance of documents based on forged papers may also face legal action, according to the home department diktat.
