ED summons Mimi Chakraborty, Urvashi Rautela in betting app case
New Delhi, Sept. 15 -- The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Sunday summoned former Trinamool Congress lawmaker Mimi Chakraborty and Bollywood actress Urvashi Rautela for questioning in connection with its money laundering probe against illegal online betting apps, which use multiple platforms for surrogate advertisements and collect funds from users, officials said.
Chakraborty and Rautela have been asked to appear before ED on Monday and Tuesday, respectively, officials said.
Earlier, the agency had recorded the statement of former India cricketers Shikhar Dhawan and Suresh Raina in connection with the case. ED had also called the Google and Meta representatives for questioning. ED is probing multiple cases involving illegal betting apps alleged to have duped numerous people and investors worth crores of rupees or have evaded a huge amount of taxes.
In the first three months of 2025, over 1.6 billion visits were recorded on illegal betting websites, an official said, adding: "The estimates also suggest that top betting apps are evading Rs.27,000 crore in taxes every year."...
