DRI seizes illegal gold worth Rs.12.58 cr, 13 held
MUMBAI, Oct. 12 -- Mumbai zonal unit of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) on Friday busted a major drug-smuggling racket and arrested 13 people involved. The arrested individuals include foreign nationals, Mumbai International Airport staff. The agency also seized 10.488kg of 24-karat, foreign-origin gold, valued at about Rs.12.58 crore.
The syndicate's modus operandi had transit passengers from Dubai to Singapore, Bangkok, and Dhaka via Mumbai acting as carriers, hiding gold in egg-shaped wax capsules inside their bodies.
