Mumbai, Aug. 12 -- Maharashtra environment minister Aaditya Thackeray has raised an objection over the draft Environment Impact Assessment notification and said in its present form, the notification "fails to align with the Paris agreement" and poses a threat for the "goal of sustainable growth".

In a three-page letter to Union environment minister Prakash Javadekar, Thackeray said that the government must hear the voice of locals affected by a project and also the "unheard voice of mother nature".

The draft EIA has been facing opposition from environmentalists and non-governmental organisations, who have claimed that the Centre is diluting the environmental clearance procedure.
