CR surprised at FIR against engineers, sticks to theory of protruding bags
MUMBAI, Nov. 4 -- The Central Railway (CR) is firm that commuters' protruding bags is what caused the tragic Mumbra incident that killed five and injured eight on June 9.
Sources in CR said they had already carried out an internal enquiry and were surprised that their engineers were named by the Government Railway Police (GRP) in this case.
The Thane GRP had initially registered an Accidental Death Report. They converted it into a FIR on Sunday, against a senior section engineer and a section engineer of the CR for core engineering and maintenance lapses under 125(a)(b) (endangering life or personal safety of others) of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita.
It is also the GRP's responsibility to ensure that their staff on their platform prevents overcrowding, said a source from CR.
