court allows actor Rhea Chakraborty to go abroad
MUMBAI, June 4 -- A special Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) court has permitted actor Rhea Chakraborty to travel abroad between June 1 and September 15 for professional commitments related to the filming of a new project, Stepsons S1. She has been allowed to visit Sri Lanka, Serbia, and countries in Europe.
The court, in its May 29 order, noted that Chakraborty had earlier travelled abroad with prior permission and had adhered to all bail conditions. "There is no occasion that she had infringed the bail conditions," observed Special Judge C.S. Datir.
Chakraborty was arrested by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) in September 2020, along with her brother and others, in a drug case linked to the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput. She was accused of procuring drugs and managing finances for Rajput's consumption. The case stemmed from a complaint filed by Rajput's father, and Chakraborty was granted bail by the Bombay High Court in October 2020.
In her plea, the actor said she needed her passport to process visas and had travelled earlier without violating conditions. The prosecution opposed the request, claiming she might abscond and had not submitted proof of her casting.
However, the court noted her permanent residence in Mumbai and strong social ties, stating the risk of her fleeing was minimal.
