Cops arrest husband for abusing wife for years, abetting her suicide
MUMBAI, Nov. 24 -- The MHB police have arrested a Dahisar resident for allegedly abetting the suicide of his 36-year-old wife on November 17. Police said the woman had been facing years of alleged physical and mental abuse.
According to officers, the incident occurred between 12pm and 1pm. The deceased, originally from Jalna, had been staying in Nashik for the past five years, where her mother works at a reputed hospital. She married the accused in November 2007 and had two children.
In her complaint, the woman's mother said the accused began harassing his wife soon after marriage, allegedly beating her and abusing her over trivial issues. The woman frequently told her mother about the mistreatment. In 2021, unable to bear the alleged violence, she left her husband and moved to her maternal home with her children. The husband, however, never visited her and continued threatening her over the phone. Following this, she approached the court and filed a case against him.
Police said that despite the ongoing case, the accused resumed harassing her. The woman later learnt that he was allegedly involved in an extra-marital relationship. When she confronted him, he refused to end the affair and allegedly told her to "leave the house or commit suicide."
On Monday, the woman was found hanging from a blanket inside her room. Based on the mother's statement, the police arrested the husband on charges of abetment to suicide.
In a separate incident, the Kandivali police have registered a case against a 23-year-old man for allegedly abetting the suicide of a 25-year-old woman found dead at her Kandivali West home on November 22. Police said the two were in a relationship and the woman's mother claimed the accused frequently harassed her daughter.
The woman, who worked at a salon, was last seen arguing with the accused on the morning of the incident. He later broke open the door and found her hanging. She was taken to hospital but declared dead....
