PUNE, Nov. 27 -- The Ahilyanagar police have arrested three men for allegedly kidnapping and assaulting Congress' Ahilyanagar district president Sachin Rangrao Gujar, 54, at gunpoint early on Wednesday while he was out for a morning walk near Shrirampur town. The arrested accused have been identified as Chandrashekhar Manoj Kumar, 34, Yogesh Shyam Borade, and Sagar Babasaheb Bajare, 31, all residents of Belapur Road, Bajarang Nagar in Shrirampur. According to the complaint filed by the victim Gujar, a farmer by profession, a sedan without a number plate intercepted him around 7am near Dr Suresh Thorat's residence. Age and five others allegedly got out of the vehicle and confronted him over derogatory language he had purportedly used while referring to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. Gujar alleged that the group forced him into the car at gunpoint. Near Dhudhal Wasti, the accused allegedly assaulted him with kicks and punches before releasing him. CCTV footage of the incident has been circulating widely on social media, triggering protests from Congress workers across Ahilyanagar district and demands for immediate action. Ahilyanagar superintendent of police Somnath Gharge told Hindustan Times, "The accused are associated with a local Hindu organisation named Shiv Prahar. They don't have any criminal history and were arrested after an FIR was filed against them." A local man, Chadu Age - who identifies himself as a follower of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj - released a video claiming responsibility for the assault. In the clip, he says he beat Gujar after the leader allegedly used derogatory language while taking Shivaji Maharaj's name. With local body elections approaching, the incident has escalated political tension in the region. The Congress has alleged that organised groups may be involved in the attack. In protest, the Congress staged a day-long sit-in. State Congress president Harshwardhan Sapkal visited Shrirampur, where he met the district superintendent of police along with Shrirampur MLA Hemant Ogle. Sapkal said, "On Constitution Day, the BJP has carried out an attack on democracy early in the morning. It was on this very date, 26/11, that Pakistani terrorists attacked India, and choosing the same day, Devendra Fadnavis' close associates have attacked democracy in Ahilyanagar district." He added that the party "will not tolerate a situation where, during a peak election period, the district president of a national party is kidnapped and assaulted". In the viral video, Age states: "I saw Sachin Gujar uttering Shivaji Maharaj's name in the singular. When I questioned him, he arrogantly used derogatory language. Therefore, I beat him up, and I take full responsibility."...
