Cocaine worth Rs.17 crore seized from Tanzanian woman at CSMIA
Mumbai, Nov. 15 -- The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) seized 1.71 kilograms of cocaine, worth Rs.17.18 crore in illegal markets, from a Tanzanian female passenger arriving from Entebbe, Uganda, on Friday at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport.
Acting on a specific intelligence, the DRI intercepted the passenger and recovered two packets containing a white powdery substance in a plastic container and pellets from her luggage. Using a field test kit, the officers confirmed the white powder as cocaine. The woman also ingested two capsules to smuggle the contraband into India.
Subsequently, the passenger was arrested and presented before a city court, which remanded her to judicial custody.
"DRI remains committed to building a Nasha Mukt Bharat, relentlessly intercepting narcotics, dismantling international trafficking syndicates, and safeguarding the citizens, especially the youth, from the scourge of narcotics," a DRI official said.
