Cannabis worth Rs.7.86 crore seized
MUMBAI, Oct. 22 -- Customs officials at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) detained two passengers and seized hydroponic weed (cannabis) worth around Rs.7.86 crore from them.
Acting on a tip off, the Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) officials detained Mohammad Irfan Abdullah Khan and Sarbi Mohammad Ikrar Shaikh, residents of Mumbra, Thane, and Malad. The duo were travelling from Hong Kong to India on Monday night, and when officials checked their trolley bags they found the weed concealed in 28 packages.
Officials said the two of them were couriers in a larger international smuggling racket, and have been booked under the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substance Act.
