MUMBAI, Jan. 6 -- The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) issued stop-work notices to 233 construction sites and show-cause notices to another 557 sites in December 2025 for violations of pollution control norms. The action follows heightened enforcement of air pollution mitigation measures across the city. Officials said that 1,080 construction sites have so far installed Air Quality Index (AQI) monitoring sensors in compliance with BMC directives. GRAP-IV restrictions are being enforced in areas where the AQI has crossed the 200 mark, mandating a halt to construction activity until air quality improves, officials said. At present, air quality across Mumbai is being tracked through 29 Continuous Ambient Air Quality Monitoring Systems (CAAQMS). While the city recorded satisfactory air quality levels on the nights of January 1 and 2, monitoring data showed a shift to the moderate category on January 3 and 4, officials said....
