BMC issues stop-work notice at bullet train site
MUMBAI, Dec. 26 -- The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) issued a stop-work notice to the bullet train construction site in Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) on Wednesday for blatant breach of air pollution norms.
The BMC has been facing mounting criticism from the Bombay High Court for lapses in monitoring air pollution.
One of the primary contributors to the city's poor air quality is particulate matter generated by construction activity, something the BMC itself has acknowledged. Against this backdrop, the HC remarked on Wednesday, "The BMC is not working at all. There is no monitoring. It has turned a blind eye to the issue."
The notice was issued after BMC officials visited the bullet train site on Wednesday. This is the second notice issued to the bullet train contractors.
