MUMBAI, Dec. 27 -- The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has issued four notices to the National Sports Club of India (NSCI) in Worli for alleged non-compliance with fire safety norms, following a week-long inspection drive targeting eateries and commercial establishments in the city. The notices were served after carrying out routine checks to assess adherence to fire safety regulations on December 19, under the Maharashtra Fire Prevention and Life Safety Measures Act, 2006. The action comes amid an ongoing legal dispute between the civic body and the NSCI over monetary transactions related to space provided by NSCI during the Covid-19 pandemic for operating isolation centres and treatment wards. Addressing the issue, additional municipal commissioner (city) Ashwini Joshi said the NSCI had earlier accepted an amount of Rs.12 crore from the BMC for the space and services provided during the lockdown period. "However, the club challenged the civic body in court, questioning the authenticity of documents," the additional municipal commissioner said.
