Thane, May 16 -- Although the Shiv Sena has a majority in the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC), it will still need Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) support to maintain its grasp over the standing committee.

Capitalising on the opportunity, the BJP has demanded the post of the chairperson for one year and deputy mayor's post as well. The election of 16 members and chairperson of the committee will be held on May 17.

The standing committee is a treasure trove of any corporation, which makes the post of chairperson a coveted one. Sena corporator Ram Repale was the standing committee chief. The tenure of the previous committee ended recently and re-election has been scheduled for Friday.
