Belgian police in city to question murder accused
MUMBAI, Oct. 15 -- A police team from Belgium is in the city in connection with the murder of a deaf-mute man in the city in August last year. The police team will question the three persons who were arrested for allegedly killing their associate, Arshad Ali Sadiq Ali Shaikh. Brussels-based Jagpalpreet Kamal Singh, 50, was detained in Belgium in October 2024 for allegedly provoking the accused through video calls to kill the victim.
The Belgian team will start questioning the accused, lodged in two jails, from Wednesday, police said. Belgian authorities have refused India's extradition request and said they would try Singh in Brussels instead. The questioning in Mumbai is to facilitate the trial in Brussels.
Shaikh's murder came to light on August 5, 2024, when a GRP constable noticed two men, identified as Jay Chavda and Shivjeet Singh, pulling a large suitcase at Dadar station. Finding it suspicious, he checked the suitcase and found a body inside.
Both Chavda and Singh were arrested. Later, the deceased's wife Ruksana Arshad Shaikh was also arrested, with the police claiming that she had an extramarital affair with Chavda and was aware of the conspiracy to kill her husband. P3...
