Mumbai, Feb. 22 -- For the second time in a week, Mumbai recorded the highest day time temperature across the state on Saturday, with the mercury climbing to 36.3degC. Officials from the India Meteorological Department (IMD) attributed the spike to the seasonal transition from winter to summer. At Santacruz, the city's base weather station, IMD logged a maximum temperature of 36.3degC, which was 4.3 degrees above normal and the highest in the state. In Colaba, the maximum temperature touched 34.8degC, 4.2 degrees above normal. The minimum temperature was 23.6degC in Colaba, 2.7 degrees above normal, while Santacruz recorded 22.4degC which was 3.7 degrees above normal. "The higher temperatures will persist for two days after which westerly winds will once again start blowing over the city," said Sushma Nair, senior scientist, regional meteorological centre, IMD Mumbai.
