Asiatic Society's polls postponed indefinitely
MUMBAI, Nov. 8 -- The Asiatic Society on Friday postponed its elections, which were scheduled for Saturday, to an indefinite date, citing irregularities in the voters' list. The decision comes amid a heated contest between two former Rajya Sabha MPs representing opposing ideologies.
In a message issued on the Society's letterhead on Friday, the managing committee said, "There are several anomalies in the voters' list. Several discontinued members, as well as members who are not alive, were also included in the published members list. Therefore, to rectify that, Asiatic administration requires more time."
The postponement also follows a Bombay High Court order on Thursday extending the cut-off date for voter eligibility, effectively adding around 1,600 new members to the list.htc...
