Patna, Nov. 3 -- Former MLA and Janata Dal (United) leader Anant Singh and two of his aides have been arrested in connection with the murder of gangster-turned-politician Dularchand Yadav in Mokama in poll-bound Bihar, officials said on Sunday. Singh, JD(U)'s candidate in Mokama, was produced before the court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate in Patna on Sunday, and was remanded to 14-day judicial custody at Beur Central Jail. "The court sent Singh and two others to judicial custody for two weeks," his lawyer Naveen Kumar told reporters. Yadav, a campaigner for Jan Suraaj candidate Piyush Priyadarshi, died during electioneering in Mokama area of Patna district on October 30. Police said that Singh and his two aides were arrested in connection with Yadav's murder from Bedna village on the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday. "Preliminary investigations suggest a riot-like situation broke out between supporters of Anant Singh and Piyush Priyadarshi. Everyone present shares collective responsibility," said Bihar police chief Vinay Kumar, adding that the CID and district police are jointly investigating. Narrating the details of the events that took place on October 30, the DGP said, "Supporters of both candidates, who were travelling in vehicles, clashed with each other. There was stone pelting as well. Cases have been registered in connection with all of these, and more than 80 people have been arrested in all of these cases, including this murder case." Kumar said Dularchand Yadav's post-mortem examination report showed that he died of cardiorespiratory failure due to shock caused by injury to the heart and lungs by a hard and blunt substance. In the aftermath of the incident, the Election Commission of India ordered the transfer of Patna superintendent of police (Rural) and strict action against three poll officials over the violence.
