Pune, July 29 -- Two individuals, including an American national, have been arrested for allegedly attempting to convert a Pune resident to Christianity by offering financial support and promises of mental peace. The complainant, Sunny Bansilal Danani, 27, alleged that Schaefer Javin Jacob, 41, a resident of California, along with Steven Vijay Kadam, 46, and a 16-year-old minor, visited his home on Sunday and tried to persuade him to convert. According to the police, the three reportedly claimed that accepting Jesus as the only true God would bring Danani peace, prosperity, and happiness. They also allegedly dismissed other religions and deities as myths and promised financial aid in return for conversion. Based on Danani's complaint, a case was registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita, including Section 299 (deliberate and malicious acts intended to outrage religious feelings) and Section 3(5) (criminal act by several persons in furtherance of common intention), as well as provisions of the Foreigners Act.
