MUMBAI, Oct. 19 -- Ahead of Diwali, the state government has been quick to approve funds of over Rs.5,000 crore as compensation for crop losses to farmers in flood-affected areas of the state. Relief and rehabilitation minister Makarand Jadhav-Patil said the government cleared the distribution of Rs.3,258 crore for crop losses on 2,759,754 hectares of land, for 3.36 million farmers in 23 districts. The approval came late on Friday. Earlier on Friday, the state government approved the distribution of Rs.1,356 crore to 2.16 million farmers for crop losses on 1.5 million hectares in Satara, Kolhapur, Beed, Parbhani, Dharashiv, Latur and Nanded.
