Adani Electricity wants licence upto Dharavi
MUMBAI, Nov. 30 -- Adani Electricity Mumbai Limited (AEML), a company from the Adani Group, hopes to get its jurisdiction to distribute power extended to Dharavi, where the group had bagged one of the city's biggest redevelopment projects. Accordingly, AEML has submitted a proposal to the Maharashtra State Electricity Regulatory Commission (MERC).
AEML currently serves 3.2 million consumers in Mumbai and its suburbs, from Sion to Mankhurd in the eastern suburbs, and Bandra to Mira-Bhayandar in the west.
On Saturday, AEML published a public notice regarding its application to MERC, asking it to extend its licence to cover Dharavi, which is adjacent to Sion. The regulations allow power distribution utilities to operate in areas that have geographical continuity.
If MERC clears its proposal, AEML Dharavi will be served by three power utilities, the other two being Tata Power and BEST. But it would greatly benefit the Adani Group, which has an 80% stake in Navbharat Mega Developers Pvt Ltd (NMDPL), the special purpose vehicle redeveloping Dharavi, considered Asia's largest slum....
