Accused flees, as constable takes him to his house instead of court
MUMBAI, April 12 -- A police constable and an accused have been booked after the latter escaped from custody when the constable took him back to his apartment in Jogeshwari instead of taking him to court.
According to the Oshiwara police, constable Gahinnath Kale, attached to Local Arms 1, was assigned to escort the accused Aavesh Ahmed from Arthur Road Jail to the Dindoshi court. "Instead of taking Ahmed to court, Kale took him to Lodha Bel Air society to meet his family lawyer. However Ahmed took advantage of the opportunity and fled from the spot," said a police officer.
The Oshiwara police have registered a case against both Kale and Ahmed under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) including escape from confinement, resisting lawful custody, and negligence by a public servant leading to an escape.
The police are trying to track down Ahmed, who remains absconding....
