6 dead, 6 injured in water tank collapse at Nagpur factory
NAGPUR, Dec. 20 -- Six workers from Bihar were killed and at least six others injured, including three in critical condition, after a water tank collapsed at an industrial unit in the Butibori industrial zone near Nagpur on Friday morning.
The accident occurred at a factory of the Avaada Group, a manufacturer of solar panels and batteries, when a large water tank crashed to the ground during testing. Three workers died on the spot, while three others later succumbed to their injuries in hospital.
Superintendent of police (Nagpur Rural) Harssh Poddar confirmed the fatalities. According to the police, the water tank, with a capacity of around 150 kilolitres, was undergoing testing when it collapsed.
Soon after the accident was reported, local police and emergency services launched rescue operations. Eyewitnesses said a loud crash was heard, followed by screams, as the metal framework of the tank collapsed without warning.
Among the six injured, three are in intensive care, while the others have been admitted to general wards at the government-run Maya General Hospital. Doctors said the condition of the critically injured patients is precarious but stable.
The bodies of the deceased workers have been sent for post-mortem examination. The deceased are: Arvind Kumar Thakur, 28, of Champaran; Ashok Kanchan Patel, 42, of Pahadpur; Ajay Paswan, 26, of Muzaffarpur; Sudhanshu Sahni, 36, of Muzaffarpur; Bullet Kumar Saha, 30, of West Champaran; and Shamim Ansari, 42, of Muzaffarpur, all residents of Bihar. The district administration has informed relatives of the deceased about the accident.
The mishap has raised questions about safety and construction protocols in high-risk industrial zones like Butibori. Authorities have launched an investigation to determine whether the mishap was caused by structural failure, substandard materials or negligence. Site supervisors are being questioned. No official statement has been issued by the company so far....
