2 metros, pod taxi opening postponed
Mumbai, April 2 -- Inaugural events for two metro projects and pod taxi service in the Bandra Kurla Complex, which were scheduled on April 3, will now be held on April 6, BJP MLA Narendra Mehta said in a media statement late at night on Tuesday.
The events had to be postponed as the schedules of chief minister Devendra Fadnavis and deputy chief minister Eknath Shinde were clashing, Mantralaya officials told Hindustan Times. Both ministers were supposed to attend the programmes slated for Friday.
"The chief minister had earlier given a go ahead to the MMRDA (Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority) for Friday's inauguration programmes. But his schedule was clashing with the deputy chief minister's schedule, so the programmes had to be postponed," a Mantralaya official said, requesting anonymity.
The projects which were supposed to be inaugurated were Metro 2B (5.39-km stretch), Metro 9, pod taxis in Bandra Kurla Complex and operationalisation of a tunnel boring machine for the Thane-Borivali Twin Tunnel.
While the MMRDA had not formally announced any date for the inaugurations, banners put up by BJP and Shiv Sena politicians had said the projects would be inaugurated on April 3. In Mira-Bhayander, some banners hailed BJP MLA Narendra Mehta as 'Metro Man' while others hailed Shiv Sena minister Pratap Sarnaik as 'The Architect of Metro Rail'.
The MMRDA was also busy preparing for the inaugural events on Friday when they were informed about the clash in the schedules of the chief minister and deputy chief minister, officials said....
