MUMBAI, June 28 -- The Navghar police have arrested two delivery agents for allegedly manhandling a traffic cop in Mulund and snatching the e-challan machine from him on Thursday. Police officers traced the duo via CCTV footage after they fled from the spot and arrested them from Mumbra on Thursday night. The e-challan machine they had snatched was recovered from them, police officers familiar with the case told HT.
The arrested accused were identified as Indrajitsingh Satnamsingh Bhardwaj, 33, and his younger brother Amandeep Satnamsingh Bhardwaj, 27. The brothers work as delivery boys with a courier firm and live in the Reti Bandar area in Mumbra.
According to the police, the duo was heading towards Mulund railway station on their motorbike on Thursday. Around 12.45pm, after they jumped a traffic signal, traffic police constable Laxman Rathod, 49, intercepted them at Hariom junction in Mulund East and took a photo of their bike. This angered the duo and one of them who was riding pillion snatched the e-challan machine from Rathod.
"When the traffic cop tried to stop them, they pushed him away and fled with the e-challan machine," said a police officer.
The traffic police subsequently approached the Navghar police station, where a FIR was registered against the duo under sections 309(4) (robbery), 132 (using criminal force against a public servant), and 3 (5) (common intention) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
Assistant police inspector Sachin Dhadve and his team visited the crime scene and checked the footage of CCTV cameras installed nearby.
"After the duo was arrested, they confessed to the crime," said the officer quoted earlier. "The e-challan machine was also recovered from them."
Both brothers were produced in court on Friday and remanded in judicial custody....
