MUMBAI, Sept. 4 -- The police have registered 10 first information reports (FIR) against Maratha quota protesters for unlawful assembly, rioting, criminal intimidation, assault and various other offences under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Maharashtra Police Act. Since all the offences mandate punishment of less than seven years' imprisonment, the accused would be identified and served notices for appearance, police officers familiar with the matter told Hindustan Times. The Cricket Club Of India (CCI) had lodged a complaint at Marine Drive police station regarding unidentified Maratha quota protestors trying to enter the club and threatening the security guard about returning with more protestors if they were denied entry. The Marine Drive police registered an FIR based on the complaint. Another FIR was registered after a protester, Nanded resident Tanaji Balajirao Patil, poured a flammable substance (kerosene) on himself during a self-immolation bid at the agitation site on August 29.
