NAVI MUMBAI, July 13 -- Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis hailed the recognition of 12 forts associated with Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj as UNESCO World Heritage Sites, calling it a "huge honour" and a moment of pride for all Indians, especially the Marathi community. Fadnavis was speaking to the media during his site visit to the Navi Mumbai International Airport on Saturday. Speaking of the strategic brilliance of the forts, Fadnavis said, "The forts' design - from their locations in the Western Ghats and jungles to camouflaged entrances, and soil - impressed the UNESCO delegation." UNESCO will publicize the forts globally by installing detailed information at the sites, and feature them on its platforms. Fadnavis expressed gratitude to PM Narendra Modi for nominating the forts among seven sites that the Ministry of Culture had recommended. He also acknowledged the vital contributions of the state and national archaeological departments. "We got assurance of support, and all 20 nations voted unanimously in our favour," he said. Deputy CM Eknath Shinde, who was also present at the site, said, "Inclusion of the forts in the UNESCO heritage list reaffirms Maharaj's legacy concerning his bravery, strategy and outlook."...
