Mumbai, June 5 -- Industries, power plants and biofuel emissions from slums accounted for 63% of polluting particulate matter - or PM 2.5 - in Mumbai's air in 2018. The data, released by SAFAR ahead of World Environment Day (June 5), highlights the need to start taking air pollution seriously. The SAFAR data also showed levels of PM10, PM2.5, and PM1 (tiniest, deadliest particles that easily enter the body) were all much above the safe limit. World Environment Day this year focuses on air pollution, which caused 1.2 million deaths among Indians in 2017, according to the State Of Global Air Report 2019.
