MUMBAI, June 20 -- Hundreds gathered in Mumbai's Dombivli on Thursday to bid an emotional farewell to Roshni Songhare, the 26-year-old Air India cabin crew member who died in the crash of Flight AI 171 last week, seconds after take-off from Ahmedabad. Mourners remembered Roshni as a vibrant, cheerful young woman whose ever-present smile lit up every room. "We will miss that smile forever," said a neighbour. Her mother, Rajshree - a domestic worker who raised Roshni and her brother in a cramped 10x10-foot room in Walkeshwar - collapsed upon seeing the coffin. "She was full of dreams," said her uncle Praveen Sukhdere. "Her parents gave everything to help her fly." Roshni completed her schooling in Grant Road and graduated from a Girgaon college before training as cabin crew in Andheri. She worked with SpiceJet for three years and joined Air India in 2024. Colleagues described her as a source of positivity. "Even on the toughest days, she lifted everyone's spirits," said one. A model and social media influencer with over 60,000 followers, Roshni often featured friends in her videos. "She made us feel seen," said a colleague. She had recently shifted to a one-BHK in Dombivli but stayed connected to her roots in Mandsangad village, Ratnagiri. Just a week before the crash, she had visited for a local festival. "We didn't know it would be her last goodbye," said her brother Vignesh. Among those at the funeral were BJP leaders, MLA Rajes More, ex-minister Jagannath Patil, Tata Sons CFO Saurabh Agarwal and Air India's Ju Li Ng. As the last rites were performed, one mourner said softly, "She touched the skies - and now, she rests among them."...
