PRAYAGRAJ, Aug. 14 -- A teenager from the Paschim Sharira police station area of Kaushambi was poisoned by a youth, who is claimed to be her lover, on the eve of her engagement. Both had planned to consume poison, but the accused youth reneged on his promise. The teenage girl, however, died after swallowing the poison. Police have taken the accused into custody based on a complaint from the deceased girl's father. According to reports, a 17-year-old from the Paschim Sharira area was in a relationship with a youth from her neighborhood. When her family discovered the affair, they attempted to prevent the couple from meeting. Despite this, they continued to see each other. Upset by this, the girl's family arranged her marriage, with the engagement ceremony scheduled for Wednesday. On Tuesday evening, the teenager and the youth decided to commit suicide by consuming poison together. Police stated that the youth had brought the poison. The girl consumed it as per his instructions, but the accused youth did not. The family members admitted her to the medical college. After receiving primary treatment, doctors referred her to SRN Hospital in Prayagraj due to her critical condition. However, the girl died on Wednesday morning during treatment. DySP Kaushambi JP Pandey confirmed that the accused has been taken into custody. A case will be registered against him upon receiving the complaint. In a daring daylight robbery, jewellery worth Rs 6 lakh was looted from a Jewellery shop owner near Mishran village under Baharia police station area on Wednesday morning.
