Youth nabbed for murder of woman in Kaushambi
PRAYAGRAJ, April 30 -- Kaushambi police on Monday night arrested a youth in connection with the murder and alleged rape of a 24-year-old woman at her home under Paschim Sharira police station in Kaushambi district late Sunday night. According to officials, the youth-identified as a distant cousin-was upset after her marriage had recently been fixed.
On Tuesday morning, the police took the accused to a site in Paschim Sharira to recover the weapon used in the crime. While there, he allegedly opened fire on the police team in a failed bid to flee, but the police retaliated and managed to nab him. The accused sustained a gunshot injury to his leg and has been admitted to the medical college hospital for treatment, officials added.
The victim, who used to earn a living through tailoring, was sleeping alone in a room on the first floor of her house when the incident occurred. Her parents were in another house next door. On Monday morning, her naked body was found on the bed with a slit throat and wrists, and multiple injuries from a sharp-edged weapon on her body and chest.
A case was registered against unknown assailants under relevant sections, including murder (Section 103(1) of the BNS), based on a complaint filed by the deceased's father. SP Kaushambi Brijesh Srivastava formed four teams to investigate the case.
