Youth kidnapped, assaulted, robbed over old rivalry, accused held
PRAYAGRAJ, Feb. 27 -- A youth was allegedly kidnapped from Shantipuram, assaulted and robbed before being abandoned on the roadside late Wednesday night in Prayagraj. Police have taken the main accused into custody and are interrogating him.
According to the complaint filed by Faizan, a resident of Sahavpur under Nawabganj police station, his maternal uncle's son, Sohab, had gone to drop off some female relatives in Shantipuram, Phaphamau, on Wednesday evening. After leaving them, he was near Shantipuram when a car carrying around half a dozen young men overtook him, forced him to stop and dragged him inside their vehicle.
Faizan stated that the kidnappers took Sohab to Chalis Gumti in the Tharwai police station area, held him hostage in a room and beat him severely. They allegedly snatched his gold chain, ring and cash before dumping him injured on the roadside and fleeing.
Around 11 pm, passersby spotted the injured youth and informed the Dial 112 service. Police reached the spot and brought him to Tharwai police station, where he received first aid. Based on his statement, the police detained the main accused. Later in the evening, officers issued challans to both parties for disturbing peace.
