VARANASI, Aug. 22 -- Tension flared in Mirzapur on Thursday after a youth drowned in Jargo Dam following a clash with men linked to a fishing contractor. Locals alleged the contractor's men assaulted two youths with hockey sticks before throwing them into the dam. While one managed to swim to safety, 25-year-old Pradeep Patel of Imilian Khurd drowned. Enraged villagers vandalised several vehicles. SP Mirzapur Somen Verma, who also visited the spot and pacified the locals, said, "Based on the complaint received from the family members, a case is being registered under relevant sections of Bharatiya Nyaya Samhita. Strict action will be taken against all those who committed the incident."...
