Youth booked for allegedly raping minor cousins at Railway Stn
PRAYAGRAJ, April 13 -- Raniganj police late Saturday night registered a rape case against a young man involving two minor cousins at Maa Varahi Devi Dham railway station, but immediately transferred the case to the Government Railway Police (GRP). The move triggered a two-hour jurisdictional dispute between the two police units, delaying the investigation.

Following public complaints, the station master informed both Raniganj police and the GRP, but no police team reached the spot at that time. Raniganj police later stated the railway station fell under GRP jurisdiction, while the GRP station officer maintained he could not visit the site as he was engaged in an inspection elsewhere.
Late at night, based on a written complaint filed by the mother of one of the girls, Raniganj police registered a rape case against the accused, Dilshad, a resident of Suvarni village in Mandhata, Pratapgarh, and arrested him. Soon after, the case and the accused were handed over to the GRP, leading to a dispute between the two stations over jurisdiction.
Raniganj SHO Vijaykant Satyarthi said the girls had been in contact with the accused for the past two years. However, GRP SO Pankaj Bhaskar argued that, as per the FIR, the girls had first gone to Raniganj market before being taken to the station, thereby placing the case under Raniganj police jurisdiction.
Following intervention by senior officers, the GRP SO reached the Raniganj police station. After detailed discussions, Raniganj police took over the investigation, allowing further legal proceedings to continue....
