PRAYAGRAJ, Aug. 15 -- The youth accused of poisoning and killing his teenage girlfriend on the day of her engagement, has been arrested by Paschimsharira police in Kaushambi. A case was filed against the accused based on a complaint from the deceased girl's mother. According to reports, a 17-year-old girl from the Paschimsharira area was in a relationship with the accused, who lived in her neighborhood. When her family discovered the affair, they arranged her marriage, with the engagement scheduled for Wednesday. Family sources stated that earlier that morning, the girl and the young man allegedly decided to commit suicide by consuming poison together. Police reported that the youth brought the poison, and the girl consumed it at his insistence. However, the accused youth did not consume the poison himself. The seriously ill girl died during treatment at SRN Hospital, Prayagraj. Based on the deceased's mother's complaint, a case of murder by poisoning was registered against the accused on late Wednesday night. Police subsequently arrested the accused, who confessed to the crime during interrogation and has been sent to jail. A schoolteacher from Bihar, currently residing in Achalpur, Pratapgarh, jumped into the Sai river from the Kadipur bridge on Thursday morning. He was returning from a morning walk with his father, who was holding his hand at the time. However, the teacher suddenly pulled away and jumped into the river. His cousin, who was also nearby, was unable to intervene. On receiving information, police and an NDRF team, along with family members, rushed to the spot. Despite extensive efforts, no trace of the man was found by evening. The man had been appointed as a primary teacher in Bihar in 2024 and was posted in Katihar district. He had returned home around 20 days ago. According to family members, a domestic dispute occurred on Wednesday. Around 5 am on Thursday, he left the house through the roof without unlocking the main door. When family members noticed he was missing, they began searching and eventually found him walking near the Kadipur bridge. When his father approached and urged him to return home, he climbed the railing of the bridge. As his father tried to grab his hand, he jumped into the river. A joint team of the Special Operations Group (SOG) and Sarai Akil police in Kaushambi arrested a wanted criminal, Ramdas Pal, who had a Rs 50,000 reward on his head. Following a firing incident targeting the former pradhan of Imligaon village and his brothers, police had intensified their search for Pal. A resident of Kotiya village under the Sarai Akil police station, Ramdas Pal is a known criminal in Kaushambi with several criminal cases registered against him. According to Superintendent of Police Rajesh Kumar, nearly 30 cases-including murder, attempt to murder, robbery, and offenses under the SC/ST Act-are registered against Ramdas Pal in various police stations across the district. Police arrested the accused husband from Prayagraj who had brutally murdered his wife in Naudhiya village under Kokhraj police station on Monday in an inebriated state and had fled after the murder. The accused killed his wife on suspicion of illicit relations. After interrogation, police challaned the accused and sent him to jail. As per reports, Phoolmati (48) of Naudhiya village of Kokhraj had an argument with her husband Phoolchandra at around 3 pm on Monday. Phoolchandra, under the influence of alcohol, was accusing his wife of having illicit relations. This infuriated his wife and she protested strongly leading to escalation of the fight. Angry Phoolchandra stabbed his wife with a knife repeatedly. There were several marks of injury on the neck and stomach. Phoolmati died on the spot....
