Younger son, two friends nabbed for killing farmer
PRAYAGRAJ, Nov. 20 -- The police on Wednesday sent a farmer's younger son and his two friends to jail for the gruesome murder that took place late at night on November 15. The 42-year-old farmer, Shivshankar Shukla alias Munnu, was sleeping at his pump house when his throat was slit with a knife.
After the killing, the attackers dumped the body nearly 150 metres away in a nearby field.
The incident occurred in Ghorha village under Antu police station limits of Pratapgarh. According to police, they had begun to unravel the conspiracy on the very night of the murder.
Investigations revealed that certain individuals, who had tried to manipulate the farmer's younger son into transferring family land in their favour, allegedly resorted to murdering him when their attempt failed.
A day after the cremation, police detained the younger son, Shivam Shukla, for questioning. Continuing their search for the remaining suspects, SHO Anandpal Singh Bhadauria and SWAT team in-charge Amit Chaurasia arrested the two other accused-Umesh and Mahendra Singh Chauhan-from the Lohangpur highway bypass on Tuesday evening. Both belong to nearby Lohangpur village.
During interrogation, Umesh and Mahendra reportedly confessed that they, along with Shivam, carried out the murder with Shivam's knowledge and consent. The police have recovered the knife used in the crime. All three accused, including the victim's son, have been sent to jail, said the SHO.
The Special Court under the POCSO Act, presided over by Additional Sessions Judge (POCSO) Parul Verma in Pratapgarh, on Wednesday sentenced Manoj Singh of Udaipur to life imprisonment for sexually assaulting a minor and threatening to kill her.
The court has also imposed a fine of Rs.60,000 on the convict. The court directed that the fine amount be provided to the survivor to support her medical treatment, recovery from psychological trauma, and rehabilitation.
According to the complainant, on September 1, 2016, her daughter was on her way to the house of one Lallu Singh in the village when the accused, Manoj Singh, dragged her into his house. He then committed the offence and threatened her afterwards.
The prosecution established the charges through the testimony of six witnesses. The court also instructed that the survivor be compensated under the Uttar Pradesh Rani Lakshmibai Mahila Samman Kosh as per the prescribed norms.
