Young woman strangled to death amid marriage pressure, accused held
PRAYAGRAJ, April 24 -- A 20-year-old woman was allegedly strangled to death late Wednesday night in Sandalpur Malethua village under the Phulpur police station area in the trans-Ganga region of the district. The incident came to light Thursday morning when her body was found near her house, police said.
According to police, the deceased, identified as Rekha, was found lying about 10 metres away from her home. Her younger brother had gone to wake her up in the morning to feed cattle but discovered she was missing from her room. Shortly after, her body was located nearby.
A postmortem examination revealed that the victim was approximately one month pregnant. Based on a complaint filed by her father, Rajendra Patel, a case was registered against neighbor Lal Bahadur Patel and his sons, Vikas and Monish, citing a possible land dispute.
However, during interrogation, Monish confessed to the crime. Police investigations revealed that Rekha and Monish were in a relationship. Monish was scheduled to marry another woman in June, which reportedly led to tensions as Rekha was pressuring him to marry her. Unable to handle the situation, Monish allegedly called her out of the house on Wednesday night and strangled her, police said.
Police have arrested the accused and are further investigating the possible involvement of his father and brother in the case. "A case of murder linked to a love affair has come to light. The accused has been arrested, and the role of his father and brother is also under investigation," said Kuldeep Singh Gunawat, DCP (trans-Ganga)....
