PRAYAGRAJ, Dec. 17 -- A local Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and son of a former zila panchayat member from the trans-Ganga region of Prayagraj, Akhilendra Pratap Singh (45), was among the victims of a horrific road accident on the Yamuna Expressway in Mathura early Tuesday morning. The accident, involving eight buses and three cars, triggered a massive fire in which at least 13 people were charred to death, and more than two dozen were injured. Akhilendra, also known as Raju Yadav, was a resident of Nahti village under the Sarai Mamrej police station area. News of his death sent shockwaves through his family and the local community, with large numbers gathering to offer condolences. According to family members, Singh, an active BJP leader who did not hold any official party post, was travelling in a car with friends Rajkumar of Khanpur Dandi, Sunil Guddu of Thanapur, and another associate. They were en route to New Delhi to congratulate newly appointed BJP national working president Nitin Nabin.
