LUCKNOW, Oct. 19 -- Young spinner Kartik Yadav on Saturday earned a rare success for himself, completing his maiden 10-wicket match haul for former champions Uttar Pradesh against hosts Himachal Pradesh in their four-day Under-23 Col CK Nayudu Trophy encounter at Bilaspur. Gorakhpur's left-arm orthodox spinner Yadav, who had 5/107 in the first innings, bowled superbly in the second innings and took 5/53 to get Himachal Pradesh out for 184 in 76 overs in their second innings, at the Luhnu Cricket Ground. In reply, Uttar Pradesh even after conceding 96 runs first innings lead, were 111/2 in 30 overs in their second innings. They will be needing 191 more runs to notch up a victory in the season opener when the final day game begins on Sunday. Himachal Pradesh began the day at 31/2 on Sunday, but it was young left-arm pacer Naman Tiwari, who pushed hosts further deep with back-to-back wickets of Ritik Kumar (4) and Kabir A Singh (2). First he trapped Kumar in front of the wicket and then uprooted the off-stump of Singh. Though skipper Mridul Surroch and keeper-batter Vaibhav S Kalta tried to repair Himachal Pradesh's innings, stitching together 69 runs for the fifth wicket, both slow bowlers Shubham Mishra and Kartik Yadav dashed their hopes as Mishra castled Kalta (33, 92b, 3x4, 1x6) and Yadav found next man Amanpreet Singh (6) in front of the wicket with a quick one. Kartik also forced Surroh (61, 141b, 8x4) to offer a straight catch to Swastik Chikara at the slips, and then removed Aditya Chauhan (1) and Aniket (2) before Rituraj Sharma had the wicket of Praval Singh (25, 48b, 2x4) to wrap the hosts second innings in 76 overs. In reply, Uttar Pradesh even after losing an early wicket of opener Mohd Aashiyan (5) in the fifth over, managed to stay a float with opener Adarsh Singh and Swastik Chikara adding 79 runs for the second wicket. Chikara was trapped LBW by Ritik Kumar after scoring 49-ball 36, which contained three boundaries and two sixes. But thereafter, Adarsh and Rituraj Sharma denied any further chance of any damage to Himachal Pradesh bowlers, adding an unbeaten 28 runs for the third wicket. Adarsha was batting at 51, which came off 85 balls with the help of six boundaries and a six, whereas Sharma's 29-ball 15, was studded with two boundaries. The remaining 191 runs for the first victory of the season isn't a big challenge for Uttar Pradesh on the final day on Sunday, but for that visitors would be required to bat patiently, especially out of form skipper Sameer Rizvi, who remained the biggest failure in the first innings....
