Lucknow, Oct. 15 -- Chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday announced plans for a comprehensive Urban Redevelopment Policy to rejuvenate cities across Uttar Pradesh. Chairing a meeting of the housing department, he said cities are "not merely clusters of buildings but vibrant social structures," and stressed integrating modernity, tradition, and humanity. The new policy will focus on transforming old and dilapidated areas with modern infrastructure, public amenities, and environmental balance. It will prioritise land reorganisation, private investment, transparent rehabilitation, and livelihood protection for affected families. Yogi said the policy would establish a state-level redevelopment authority, adopt a single-window system, and promote the PPP model. He directed inclusion of green building norms, energy efficiency, and heritage preservation in all projects. The CM also called for a fair, citizen-friendly system for external development charges, ensuring transparency, location-based rates, and use of funds solely for urban infrastructure. "Separate strategies should be prepared for old markets, government housing complexes, industrial areas, and unauthorized settlements. Priority has been given to redeveloping retired government housing, old housing societies, and encroachment-affected areas", the CM said.
