Yogi kicks off Bihar poll campaign, attacks RJD-Cong over burqa row
Danapur/Saharsa/Lucknow, Oct. 17 -- Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath launched a high-voltage campaign in assembly poll-bound Bihar on Thursday, joining the nomination process of BJP candidates in Danapur and Saharsa and addressing public rallies where he sharply criticised the RJD-Congress alliance.
Yogi lambasted the RJD-Congress combine in Bihar for opposing the Election Commission's order on the identification of women voters who turn up at polling booths in a burqa, claiming that the Opposition parties are indulging in mischief by raising a controversy over the issue. The commission had said anganwadi workers would be deployed at all polling booths for verifying the identity of burqa-clad women.
The guidelines of the commission are very clear about how identity is verified inside a polling station and will be strictly followed, it said.
"Bihar under the NDA rule is looking forward to continuing its journey towards progress. At such a time, the Congress-RJD is indulging in mischief by raising a controversy over burqas," Yogi alleged.
Attacking the Congress-RJD combine for its opposition to the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) to the voters list, Yogi asked, "Should fake voters be allowed to vote? The Congress and RJD want this to happen. A reason why they are making a big fuss over burqas. They have also been opposed to electronic voting machines (EVMs) because they want to restore the old system of ballot papers, which facilitated booth capture by their henchmen."
"Should the foreign intruders get the right to take away the rights of the poor and the Dalits," he asked the people at the rally.
Recalling the cultural affinity between Bihar and Uttar Pradesh, he said, "After the construction of a grand temple of Lord Ram at Ayodhya, the birthplace of Goddess Sita in Sitamarhi is all set for a facelift. We are also working on improving the connectivity between the two places."
Reminding people of the RJD-Congress rule before 2005, Yogi said, "Who does not know about Bihar's jungle raj and dynastic politics from 1990 to 2005. You must have seen who those people were who turned Bihar's spiritual land of knowledge into a land of dynastic politics and crime, creating an identity crisis for our youth."
"How anarchy was spread here in the name of development is not hidden from anyone. Amid the identity crisis faced by the youth in Bihar, people who wanted to do something for the state migrated," he said.
Lauding the Nitish Kumar-led government in the state, he said that the NDA has worked to free Bihar from the "stigma."
"Today, the double-engine government in Bihar has come again to appeal to take it forward even more effectively," the UP chief minister said.
Yogi also said Prime Minister Narendra Modi treated 140 crore Indians as his family, while Lalu treated only Rabri Devi as his family.
"The Congress humiliated India during its rule, denied cultural icons, and encouraged anarchy through infiltration. The RJD developed their family, not Bihar," he said.
Addressing an election meeting at Saharsa for BJP candidate Alok Ranjan Jha, Yogi highlighted the NDA's commitment to development, law and order and welfare for all sections of society but also reminded the people of sarcastic comments of Congress and RJD leaders regarding the construction of Lord Ram's Temple at Ayodhya.
He said, "I have the privilege of visiting Bihar, the sacred land of Mata Janaki and the wisdom-filled soil of Lord Buddha and the mother of democracy."
"The NDA government will continue to drive Bihar's growth with greater speed, dignity and pride," he said.
