Work picks up pace, demolition continues
VARANASI, Jan. 9 -- The demolition of two buildings, which were purchased for the road-widening project continued on Thursday amidst heavy police presence. The demolition work on these two buildings began on Wednesday.
A senior official said that so far five buildings, which were purchased for the project, have been demolished.
PWD executive engineer KK Singh said that demolition work on around five other buildings is planned. As part of that, the demolition work began on two buildings.
As part of the project, the around-650-meter-long Dal Mandi Road will be widened to 17.5 meters from six meters. Around 187 buildings were identified for acquisition for the project out of which, 17 properties, including 44 buildings have been purchased so far.
During a visit to Varanasi on January 3, chief minister Yogi Adityanath had instructed officials to expedite the work on the project....
