Women commission chief takes tough stand on 'lapses' in women hosp
AGRA, June 15 -- State Women Commission chairperson Babita Chauhan took a firm stand on the shortcomings at District Women Hospital, commonly known as Lady Lyall Hospital in Agra. She expressed dissatisfaction over the hospital's failure to comply with the directions she had given during her visit two months ago.
Chauhan visited the district women hospital in Agra on Saturday afternoon and interacted with patients admitted to the hospital as well as their attending relatives.
"I had visited this hospital two months ago and highlighted several issues, such as broken toilet doors and lack of water facilities. Even during this severe heat wave, water coolers are still missing. Additionally, the doctor at the ultrasound unit arrived late," said Babita Chauhan.
"Despite the warning I issued two months ago, no improvements have been made-now it's time for action," said Chauhan. Chauhan openly expressed her displeasure over the non-functional lift, broken toilet doors, inadequate number of water coolers, and lack of a proper drinking water facility-issues for which the Hospital Superintendent had no satisfactory explanation. Agitated by the situation, she immediately arranged for four coolers in view of the ongoing heat wave and contacted officials from the PWD and Agra Nagar Nigam to expedite necessary arrangements.
Chauhan was informed that the hospital's lift had been out of order for a long time, forcing pregnant patients to climb stairs to reach the maternity ward on the third floor. During her inspection of the maternity wing, the she found only two coolers-one of which had a faulty motor and was unable to pump water.
During the visit, it was revealed that the water pipeline connected to the RO water system had been damaged, with monkeys cited as the cause.
In response, Chauhan called Nagar Nigam officials to address the monkey menace at the government-run women's hospital. While interacting with patients and their attendants, she was met with a barrage of complaints regarding inadequate facilities, and poor management....
